“Pandemic is a Portal" is a house/techno track created out of a collaboration between Brooklyn-based DJ-producer Krithi and myself. It is response to Indian intellectual and activist Arundhati Roy's 2020 "Pandemic is a Portal" speech. We ask, What would it mean to really take moments of rupture like the COVID-19 pandemic as opportunities to re-imagine the social, economic, and environmental conditions under which we live? In 2020, we saw birds and wild animals return to city and suburban spaces around the world, as well as the skies over New Delhi and other megacities clear of pollution and return to a bright blue. This is our attempt to capture that feeling in the form of an electronic track. All proceeds from this track will go to the anticaste advocacy organization Equality Labs.
